Experience safe and personalized attention

While foot soaks are a popular, relaxing, and therapeutic option for many, they are not advised in several situations to prevent injury, infection, and skin damage.

When Foot Soaks Are Not Advised:

  • Diabetes: Individuals with diabetes should avoid soaking, as it can cause the skin to become too soft (macerated), leading to skin breakdown and a higher risk of infection.
  • Peripheral Neuropathy/Reduced Sensation: If you cannot feel the temperature of the water properly, you are at high risk for serious burns.
  • Poor Circulation/Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD): People with poor blood supply to their feet have more fragile skin, which can break down and fail to heal properly after a soak.
  • Open Wounds, Cuts, or Sores: Any breach in the skin should not be immersed in a shared or even personal bath, as it allows bacteria to enter the bloodstream.
  • Active Infections: If you have active fungal infections (like athlete’s foot), soaking can make the skin wetter and potentially worsen the infection, as fungi thrive in moisture.
  • Very Dry/Cracked Skin: Long, hot soaks can strip natural oils from the skin, leading to further dryness, cracks, and fissures.
